Lance stares at the girl for several long moments, to be honest he didn't buy the entire story. Though he wasn't entirely sure what part of it was a lie. It was certainly strange that someone in a middle class home would need to take a coat as a hand out, but he knew that there were plenty of messed up families out there so maybe her circumstances were bad. Well either way it wasn't his place to pry or to call her on something he had no proof of.

When Sophia mentions the place they are going he winces. That name was painful, he'd never been but it would take a real "funny guy" to think that was clever and he wasn't in the mood for that kind of bullshit. Though as they walk he calms down. Though as they walk he does notice Hanahi avoiding him...well that was more normal than anything else so he decides not to make a fuss. It was night time and he was a stranger, more or less.

When the girl asks about Sophia and his past he replies. "My mom and dad died when I was young an I was raised in a strained relationship with my uncle. I live along now and work part time to get by." He answers honestly, then he passes the girl a card that says "Lance's Odd Jobs" and has a phone number attached, apparently he was still doing his Odd Jobs business despite his deal with the covenant. Lance didn't bother to hid his troubled past, but at the same time his eyes began roaming the street for threats. He wasn't sure if any were around but he wanted to be sure.

As they arrived at the coffee shot he sits down and orders a mocha with whipped cream then looks at the pair. "So how'd you two meet anyways?" he asks.

"Ah, they're not that great, always stealing my clothes when she forgets to do the laundry, and people always asking when our birthday is like we have to have it on the same day, I mean their right of course, but only by a minute or so." She was a little surprised that Sophia asked if her sister went to Juuban with them. "Uh yeah, she's in your programme, I'm kind of surprised the two of you haven't met, or gazed at one another from afar. Oh, Tokyo is great so far. Though I kind of miss getting to see wild life other than the occasion rodent, winged or otherwise."

Hanahi listened intently as Sophia told her life's story "Oh wow! That like makes your brother a war hero or something right? Are they going to give him a parade?" Hanahi honestly had very little idea on just how the military worked, but that sounded like something that would get you a parade in the movies and that's how it worked in realy life too, right? "Can I meet your cat some time? He... or is it a she? Sounds really nice, I love cats, they're just so cute."

Her heart sank when he said that he'd lost his parents when he was so young. "At least you got to know them, and see just how much they loved you." She felt horrible for him, she'd always wanted to know the love of her parents, and he had gotten to know it, she could feel her sadness starting to turn into jealousy towards him, she tried her best to push it out of her mind.

When he asked her how she had met Sophia she pursed her lips for a moment looked from Lance to Sophia. "How we met? Oh have I ever got to tell you that. It's the most amazing thing. So I'm in Taikoku out for a run, like two days ago that's what August 30th? And I'm near that really big shrine, Honi shrine, er no that's wrong, the Hino shrine that's it. When suddenly one of those weird cultist guys from up north show up, except he looks weird like he's dressed up to be more monstery, seriously he's already a cultist and now he wants to look like some sort of monster, isn't that just so strange? And then -Oh yes, I'd like a London Fog with chocolate sprinkles on it. Where was I? Oh right, so then he trips me, and he's standing over me, and I think this is it, my life is going to end right here. But out of nowhere Sophia shows up and knocks that guy right off of me, sent him home crying to his little cultist mommy!" She turned her attention away from for a moment, to get her drink, they'd have a laugh about her silly little story and she'd fess up that she'd surprised Sophia that morning and caused her to spill her coffee on the ground when she was coming to school.

“That’s true that you don’t see many wild animals until you get to the outskirts of the city, not counting the occasional large rat. And I don’t know why I haven’t ran into your sister. Perhaps, we managed to avoid every class that the other was in,” Sophia says with a shrug.

She shakes her head at Hanahi’s excitement for a parade. There wasn’t a lot of time for those kinds of things. “Parade? I doubt it. It sounded like it he got a promotion, and then it was back to fighting for him. But maybe when everything is over.” When everything is over. She wonders how many plans she’s made set for that future date.

Artemis… always popular with everyone. “Sure. Artemis does like the attention. And my parents are normally happy to have people over,” she says with her cheerful demeanor returning.

She had heard about his parents, but not his uncle. Strained was probably using the term lightly if he decided to live on his own. However, it didn’t answer one question about him. “How did you end up coming to Japan though?”

Sophia is stunned as Hanahi comes up with a story that isn’t much like their actual meeting but somewhat true to life regardless. She goes up to order her drink next. “Cappuccino please.” When it arrives to her hands, she has a more playful expression. “Me? The one who trips over people on the ground? I think it’d be far more believable if you were the one saving me. I’ve been told that I look the damsel in distress type after all.” She takes a sip before continuing, “Nah… I don’t think fighting would be my kind of thing at all.” However, there is a slight quiver of anxiety in her voice. Did Hanahi know? Did someone catch wind of her identity?

Lance listens as they talk about animals and with a deadpan expression he also adds in. "Don't forget the giant Inscects and youma that have been showing up. They're more unique than any small furry thing." He points out, apparently talking about something that was not directly affecting him. He takes a large swig of his mocha and as the burning sensation slowly dies away he says. "Well that's a very unique first meeting." Though as he says it his eyes become hard as stone.

What the hell was the covenant doing attacking random people near the shrine? As he thought about it some more he hear Sophia's reply and seemed to visibly relax as little. It must have been an over exaggeration. He decided, though it was something to keep in mind.

When she mentions 'at least he knew his parents' his frown deepens. That wasn't really the comment of someone who has had a happy and fulfilling family life. He was starting to wonder more and more if there was more to her story than she had told them, but it was none of his business so he decides to keep his mouth shut.

"Well, its true I'm glad I had a chance to get to know my dad, though I think I would have been better off in the system after that." he admits with a distinctly unpleasant look. Though when Sophia asks how he came to Japan he replies simply. "I was a military brat when I was younger."

Hanahi blinked was Lance brought up the giant insects and youma. Hanahi had gotten to see enough monster movies to be familiar with giant insects, but she'd never heard of a youma before, she glanced over to Sophia. "Um, do you know what a youma is? Are they some type of monster like a kapu?"

As she looked at Sophia, the reason for the quiver in her voice became clear to Hanahi, her brother. "Oh!" Hanahi nearly dropped her drink, when she tried bringing both hands up to cover her mouth. How could Hanahi have been so insensitive. She placed her drink down on a near by counter, and placed her hands over Sophia. "I'm so sorry! I didn't mean to make fun of your brother's work." The dread was clear in her face. She looked to Lance to explain. "It was just a silly joke, you understand right?" With that she turned her attention back to Sophia. "Really I am sorry, can you ever forgive me. I know, I'm a stupid bitch, I didn't mean to make fun, honestly." Her eyes were wide as she looked into Sophia's.

Sophia buries her head in her hands as Lance brings up youma. Well, it just got a little more difficult to keep Hanahi in the dark. By Hanahi’s response, maybe she was just fooling around. Lifting her head back up, she says, “More like generic monsters… I’m not sure it’s an apt term for them though.”

She blinks as Hanahi seems to think that she insulted her and her brother. Well this was getting awkward. “Oh. It’s fine. I’m fine. And don’t put yourself down like that. You totally aren’t,” she says, giving a reassuring smile. “However, let’s talk about happier topics perhaps.” In truth, this entire conversation was pretty depressing, beginning with Lance’s and Hanahi’s home lives.

“Is there something in the city that you haven’t gotten to see yet, Hanahi? I mean, it’s only been two months, and there’s nothing wrong with playing tourist in your own area.” Things to see and do in Tokyo. There was an uncontroversial topic!

"Sorry, my sense of humor isn't very good." He apologizes, trying to be civil.

Lance watches Hanahi overreact with a look of confusion, well it wasn't really his place to say anything he supposed, but this reaction seemed very extreme to him. He takes another sip of his drink and watches Sophia assure her everything was okay and then goes back to listening.

Hanahi bit her thumb as she thought about Sophia's question, in truth she hadn't done much in the city yet, and much of it she really couldn't afford to do. After thinking for a moment, she decided to suggest something that she was doing on her own. "Umm I've been trying to get to see all the different shrines and other holy sites in Tokyo, there are just so many of them, and they have such fasinating stories, don't you guys think?" She gave a nervous smile, knowing full well she wouldn't be able to afford anything, and not wanting to be a leech on these two. "It's ok if you're not interested in doing that sort of thing." She gave them a shy smile.

Sophia isn’t sure why Hanahi seems so nervous. She was pretty confident back at school. Outside of school, she seemed more timid. “The shrines are all beautiful to look at,” she says in agreement.

She didn’t know too much about the shrines however except where the major ones existed and what they looked like. “I haven’t been to all of them, but that sounds like it would be fun. Have you been to Hikawa Jinja? It recently had some renovations done to it. There was a fire there not to long ago, but besides a few missing trees, you wouldn't really think it was.”

"The shrines in the area are interesting, though I've never been much of one for holy places." He admits and looking outside it was kinda late to check one out anyways. Though Lance didn't like shrines because he couldn't transform easily in them and it caused problems if he ended up in a fight. After he finishes his drink he looks at his watch. "Well it's about time for me to get going, would either of you like to be walked home?" He asks, not really expecting either to take him up on the offer.

Hanahi shook her head, she hadn't been to that particular shrine. "No I haven't, it'd be great to go, do you know what caused the fire? A lightning strike, or was it those 'damned dirty kids'?" She pretending to be a crotchety old man as she said that last part. She looked over to Sophia and in a clearly joking tone asked. "Tell me Sophia, was it you, did you burn that shrine?"

She shook her head, and looked at Lance, as he offered to walk the two of them home. "Uh, no I think I'm good, I can take care of myself after all." She smiled and looked over to Sophia. "What about you? Do you need to get going as well?"

Sophia gives a shrug, “Not quite sure what started. I’m sure they mentioned it on the news somewhere…” She couldn’t remember what the official story was. As for what happened, the fire didn’t get bad until she inadvertently agitated the youma. That deflates her mood a bit. So much for the power of love.

She looks at the time, “I suppose I could go home at a reasonable time tonight.” Looking back at Hanahi, she asks, “Are you sure you don’t want us to come with you? It’s safer to go as a group like Lance said.” It wasn’t so much thugs that she worried about so much as random youma attacks. Those were getting to be a fairly common occurrence in the city these days.

Lance looks at the girl as she talks about the shrine and asks if Sophia burned it down and he shakes his head. "From what I've been told some crazy guy started it, but that's probably just a rumor. People like to spread stuff like that."

"Sophia is right, it's safer to go with a group, but if you don't feel comfortable about it you should probably at least make sure that you stay on the brightly lit streets." He suggests then he takes a napkin and writes a number down on it. "If you run into trouble let me know, and if you get worried just contact the cops. Playing the escorts at this time of night is their jobs." He tells her as he walks out of the cafe after Sophia takes care of the check.

"Anyways let's get going." He tells her, and then when they get outside he takes Sophia's hand and leads her to a nearby quiet area. "Well, what do you want to do?" he asks her as he takes out his phone and sends some texts around that would ensure that at the very least she wouldn't run into normal human troubles.

Despite his frown, the air Lance give off seems to be less ferocious and a bit softer.

Hanahi was honestly confounded by the callisness of Lance's words. "Oh um, thanks" she took the napkin from him, slipping it into one of the pockets of the red coat. "Well, I guess, you could, but I don't want to trouble the two of you, I have to go all the way out to Taitoku. Isn't that too far for the two of you?" She really didn't want to ask for such a thing, and she was at least confident that she could outrun anyone.

Once they left the place she stopped just outside the door as Lance took Sophia's hand and spoke to Sophia, Hanahi could hear some mumbled words, but couldn't make out what they were saying. She wondered now, were they a couple, had she accidentally put herself in the middle of a secret rendezvous that they had been planning. Her head was swimming in the possibilities as she stood there.

Sophia waves as Lance leads her in another direction. “I guess, I’ll see you tomorrow, Hanahi! Maybe we can have lunch together.” Hanahi was relatively pleasant company. More so than her typical company who seemed on edge. However, the world was quite possibly literally coming to an end, which made that more than understandable. And so far, Hanahi and Kenji were the only two non-superpowered individuals that had talked to since a month ago.

She watches as Lance texts away. “Oh. I don’t know. I was planning on going home, but I guess I’ve had too much caffeine for that now. It’s not like I would have slept well anyways. You can help me cross things off my bucket list before the world is set to end. Know anyone with a motorcycle? Willing to buy me a drink?” she says, mostly joking.
