The old man had waited.
Hours after hours, the old man had sat and waited in the shack in the woods a few miles outside of Ueno. It was an unused house that Inaba used very rarely, especially after the ice age hit. But it was here he felt he could properly train the young man who showed up at the dojo with potential. For once in a man's heart, there was something to be said for hope in this cold, frozen world.
But hours go by and no sign. The path was hard, but surely he was smart enough to get here?
More hours come, and day turns to night...the cold growing worse, but the old man sat meditatively, using his willpower to ignore the cold and feeling around him. The boy would be showing up any moment now. Wouldn't he?
Still more hours, and a groan could be heard in the distance. Something rapidly approached, to which the old man had unsheathed is blade and waited...
Several days later, after Inaba had been reported missing from his usual dojo classes that he taught, a patrol was dispatched to the property trying to find him. They found a bloody scene of Inaba's body covered in claw mark and burns and a...creature of some kind, probably a Covenant monster, slashed to bits. The breath of life had faded from the old man, and the scene of the incident was cleaned up with a scientific team specialized for the job.
The official report stated that Inaba had passed of unknown means. Vague but close enough to the truth. The evidence was sealed and gathered. Inaba's granddaughter was made aware of the death and the fact that the body would not be released any time soon due to autopsy and investigation.
At the end of it, elsewhere, a scientist would appear in the autopsy room, waving off the doctors whom were about to begin. The man with pink hair stated he would do it himself due to the unusual circumstances surrounding the event.
As he left, a dark smile crept upon his face. There was much work to do.
