Lance frowns, so this was Sophia's father. Well he was familiar with the military so he was not particularly surprised, but the depth of ingnorance about what he was up against was surprising. As Sophia's dad spoke he understood what the man thought, but that did not make him any less wrong. As Sophia mentions it wasn't really up to her father he nods. If he tried to stop them Lance could get them out without too much trouble, though he wasn't confident he wouldn't hurt her father if he attacked. Though Lance had another reason for coming here.

"I am also here to announce two things. The first is that Shinjuku is a neutral zone whoever raises hell there will be eliminated. The second is that I now renounce the status of this base as a neutral zone." He says, even if the man did not understand what he was talking about it did not matter.

"That is still out of the question! You aren't even eighteen and aren't ready to be on your own in the world, magic or not!" Colonel Torres says, clearly against the idea. The father aspect of the Colonel was strong, and Lance's words evoked a narrow-eyed glance from the old man.

"Boy, I strongly suggest you watch your words right now. If you threaten or attack me, my family, or my subordinates that is a direct attack on the United States and you will be hunted down and brought to answer under the fullest extent of the law."

The last thing she needed was Lance and her father to go at it. Her day was already tough enough without dealing with that. Sophia waves her hands, “Whoa, whoa, whoa. You misunderstand him. He was protecting this area before. He cannot continue to do so. He is stopping all war activities in Shinjuku, Covenant included. However, that means no U.S. military presence unless permission is obtained from him. I think that is fair. He’s probably better able to see to the safety of the area than any military presence would be.”

She frowns. “I know you feel like things are out of your control right now. However, I’ve made my decision to put my life on the line. I think that gives me the ability to decide where I am staying. I am leaving whether you approve or do not. I don’t want our last interaction for awhile be us yelling at each other. I’ll be ok. I promise to come back when this is all over.”

She hugs her father. “I’m going to miss you a lot. I love you.”

Lance's eyes narrow as Sophia's father threatens him. He closes his eyes and takes several deep breaths before responding. "That declaration was not for you, it was a formality." He was very strained, he did not want to ruin Sophia's goodbye but her dad was such a prick.

"Listen, the fact that you are falling back on the US military while I am here proves that you cannot protect her. You can lock her up and she'll die in a cell, or you can keep her here and she'll die protecting you when someone comes here." His words and eyes held absolute conviction and certainty. "This is probably tough to accept, but so long as you are a normal human, you are only a burden." He moves back towards the door as Sophia says her piece and hugs her father.

"You ready to go Sophia?" He asks as she releases him.
